What is a rooftop solar plant?

Abundant sun and stable climatic conditions in Dubai, makes the city an ideal location for solar rooftop electricity production.

Your roof can generate enough power to provide you affordable electricity all year.

Yellow Door can help you utilize your roof for solar electricity production by installing and operating your own solar PV plant. The plant will continue generating solar power and provide you with the reliable electricity you need. Depending on the size of the roof (or roofs) we can build a solar system with a size of several kilowatts to multiple megawatts and generate solar electricity year after year.

What is solar leasing?

While we realize companies can save money by installing solar energy, we also realize that companies would rather invest in their core business as well as not getting involved in managing the solar energy system. With Solar leasing as an option, you can start saving money on your electricity bill today with zero investment. We design and build the plant either on your roof(s), car park or even on available land you own at our cost. You only agree to buy the solar electricity the plant generates.

While your grid electricity tariff rises frequently, Yellow Door promises you a discounted tariff for solar electricity for over 20 years, so you save thousands of dollars your business needs. Yellow Door owns, operates, maintains your plant and bears all the risk of electricity production. What more – you own your plant back after the end of the contract.

How does a Feed-in-Tariff Work?

With a feed-in-tariff a long-term contract is signed directly with the utility to purchase solar electricity at a pre-negotiated price. In some countries, the government will promote property owners to install solar energy on their premises by signing an agreement to buy the solar electricity generated at an attractive price. The building owner can lease their rooftop or land to Yellow Door, who will then sell the electricity to the utility over the period of their contract.

How does Net Metering work?

Net metering is what makes solar possible for any business. The utility will charge you the net amount of how much electricity was consumed and how much was produced using solar energy over a given period of time. For example, if a user consumes 100kWh and produces 80kWh of solar energy, the utility will charge him for the net 20kWh of electricty. With a PPA, the customer will pay Yellow Door for the 80kWh at a discount resulting in savings. If your system has contributed more to the grid than you’ve consumed, your local utility carries forward your credit.

What if my panels don't produce enough power?

Our team of experts will maintain the system throughout its lifetime to ensure the reliable operation of your system. Being confident with our technical knowledge and construction standards, we commit to a level of energy production from the solar system we would lease to you. You only agree to buy the solar electricity the plant generates and pay for the kilowatt-hours (kWh)

What happens if I move?

There are several options for tenants who decide to move. The first option is to transfer the contract over to the incoming tenant so that they could benefit from the solar electricity. Another option would be to

How will I pay for electricity when I have solar?

Just like you pay for your current utility bill. At the end of the month, you will receive a bill for your solar electricty consumption separate from your utility bill. Your utility will also send you a bill for the net electricity you consumed from the grid.

How many solar panels will I need?

That will depend on the size of the system, which will be optimized to reduce your electricity costs. One panel is rated at roughly 250 Watt-peak, so a system size of 1 Megawatt-peak will require roughly 4,000 panels, and require an area of roughly 10,000 sqm

How does a solar system work?

The main component of the solar system is the Photovoltaic (PV) panel. Derived from the latin words Photo (light) and Voltaic (electric), the photovoltaic effect is a natural phenomenon in particular materials which create an electric potential when exposed to sunlight. Essentially, the panel acts like a battery when exposed to sunlight, and will create an electric current when connected to a circuit.

Is this really a zero cost solution for me?

Absolutely! The cost of the solar system and installation will be handled by us. We require the building or premises pass all necesssary structural and environmental requirements outlined by the local government authorities. As well, the local power authority should be consulted to approve the interconnection to the grid

What is Distributed Solar?

Traditionally, power generation has been centralized at certain locations with very large generating capacities. The idea of distributed solar is to generate electricity closer to load centers, therefore providing energy to areas that need it, supporting a more reliable grid with less major outages and reducing electricity transmission losses.

What is the typical lease term?

The warrantied lifetime of a solar panel is 25 years, however they have demonstrated longer lifetimes in the case of several installations. The lifetime of the lease will vary from 15-25 years depending on the country regulations and customer-specific requirements.

What if my building/land lease is shorter than the 20 years solar lease term?

We could reduce the life of the lease by creating a combined capex-lease option. Reducing the life of the lease puts reduces our returns and therefore makes it more difficult to provide the leasing solution. By using the capex-lease option, you will commit a smaller capital investment to the project and benefit from the reduced electricity tariff over the life of the lease.

Do I own the system?

During the life the lease, the system will be owned by Yellow Door Energy. Once the life of the lease is over, the ownership of the system will be handed over to you.

I can well afford a solar system so why should I enter into solar leasing with Yellow Door?

In more developed markets, companies have opted for solar leasing in order to focus their investments on their core business as well as to not get involved in the management of a project not core to their business. Their main interest in solar has been to reduce their operating cost as well as achieve their sustainability targets. The reason this lease structure (discount on electricity price) is particularly attractive to them is that the compensation of the system owner is directly tied to the performance of the system - the more electricity that is generated, the higher the returns for the system owner and the higher the savings for the customer.
